The CrossFit Open is Coming—Here’s How We’re Getting Ready
And if you’re new to Breathe CrossFit this year, let me tell you: the Open completely takes over the gym for 3 weeks, and it’s the most fun we have all year.
But before we get there, we need to address the elephant in the room.
The Skills That Hold Us Back
Every year, the Open exposes our weaknesses.
Double unders. Toes-to-bar. Muscle-ups. Handstand push-ups.
The movements that make us groan when they show up in a workout.
And every year, we say the same thing: “Next year I’m going to work on [insert skill here].”
Then life happens. The motivation fades. And we forget about it until two weeks before the Open when it’s too late.
This Year Is Different
Starting today, we’re running a 4-week gymnastics clinic series every Sunday at 8am.
Feb 1: Double Unders, Wall Walks, Handstand Walking Feb 8: Toes-to-Bar, Handstand Push-Ups Feb 15: Pull-Ups, Chest-to-Bars Feb 22: Muscle-Ups – Bar & Rings
These aren’t regular classes. These are focused skill sessions where we break down the progressions, give you drills to practice, and actually help you get better at the things you’ve been avoiding.
Why Gymnastics Matters for the Open
The Open tests your fitness across every domain.
Strength. Endurance. Power. But also skill.
You can be the strongest person in the gym, but if you can’t string together toes-to-bar or double unders, you’re going to struggle.
And most people don’t practice them because they’re hard and uncomfortable.
Who Should Attend
Whether you’re working on your first pull-up or trying to go unbroken on bar muscle-ups, we’ll meet you where you’re at.
That’s the beauty of these clinics. They’re not just for advanced athletes. They’re for anyone who wants to get better.
How It Works
$120 for all 4 clinics | $40 for a single session
You can drop in on the skills you know you need to work on, or you can bundle and do all 4.
After each session, we’ll give you specific homework—drills and progressions to practice during the week so you’re not just showing up once and hoping it sticks.
The Intramural Open Starts Feb 26
If you’ve never done the Open with us, here’s what you need to know:
We split into 4 teams. You earn points for your team by completing workouts, judging others, showing up to Friday Night Lights, hitting PRs, and posting on social media.
There are theme nights. Kids heats. A cornhole tournament. A potluck at the end.
It’s chaos. It’s loud. It’s competitive. And it’s the best 3 weeks of the year.
Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late
If you want to feel confident when toes-to-bar or muscle-ups show up in a workout, you need to start practicing now.
The clinics start today. The Open starts in 25 days.
